The native grape of Tuscany, Sangiovese can be a very challenging wine to harness but here at Conti di San Bonifacio, the terroir and the careful discipline applied in the Cantina has paid off.
A wine the colour of ruby garnet just like those Brunellos! It is no myth that when Montalcino bought grapes from other parts of Tuscany, they cornered the entire production of the Monteregio region.
Now though it is an established DOC and in the glass this is a wine which gives back way more than you pay.
Sangiovese (85%), Syrah (10%), Cabernet Franc (5%)
In temperature-controlled stainless steel vats at 26º-28º C
18 months in second year French oak barrels.
Intense red fruit along with highly pleasurable notes of incense, cloves and chocolate. Generous, densely textured and persistent on the palate with a savoury freshness which fully respects the character of the Sangiovese grape from the Monteregio hills. The well managed tannins blends perfectly with the oak, making this a complex and elegant wine with a lovely length and persistence.
